Who is caring for you at Carle Foundation Hospital?

Here is a current update on the Hospitalists at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Illinois (an earlier link I provided was disabled by CFH).

So let's learn something about the "stranger doctors" who will presumably care for you, coordinate care with your primary care physician and ensure patient safety and continuity of care. Remember that unless you literally demand that your personal physician be involved in the hospital care, you will get the hospitalist ("stranger doctor") whose goal is to save Carle money, triage you for the presenting medical problem and get you out of the hospital (whether you are medically ready or not!!)

Carle Foundation Hospital Hospitalists are listed below.
Contrary to the implication made by Carle Foundation Hospital, there is no "board certification" or even standardization for "hospitalists." As such, indicating that a "hospitalist" as a "specialty" is a bit misleading.

The Hospitalist Program Model can be useful or a disaster . . . it depends on the medical facility! If the hospitalist refuses to communicate, cooperate or coordinate care of the patient with the primary care physician then, simply put, the patient's safety and continuity of care is at risk.

Wow. Carle does not provide much information about this hospitalist. But patients have a right to know something about the stranger doctor. The patient certainly has a right to know where he physician went to medical school. It matters.

Illinois patients can always check the IDFPR web-site to get additional information about their doctor. The patients can (and should) also check the board certification agency that the physician claims. The American Board of Family Medicine's web-site is http://www.theabfm.org/

Why does Carle Foundation Hospital not indicate where its physicians receive their medical degrees? It should not matter - Syria, Iran, Champaign. But physicians are not interchangeable. Physicians are not a commodity. Physicians are a product of their environment, cultural traditions and most certainly their education.
